The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) is established as a State Corporation in the Ministry of Defence vide Legal Notice No. 22 of 7th March 2017. The Mandate of the Agency is to promote, coordinate and regulate space related activities in the country.
The Kenya Space Agency notifies suitably qualified candidates on the following vacancies of employment on short-term (1-year) contract.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS OFFICER
1. Job Purpose
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Officer is responsible for the development, management, and application of geospatial tools and systems for the acquisition, analysis, visualization, and dissemination of Earth Observation data, products and services.
2. Remuneration
Salary Scale: Ksh 67,321.00 p.m.
Terms of Service: One (1) year Contract.
3. Person Specification
- Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Geospatial Engineering, Geographical Information Science (GIS), Geospatial Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, Geoinformatics, Geoinformation Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Membership to Institute of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) or any other recognized professional body; and
- Proficiency in computer applications.
4. Key Tasks/Responsibilities
- Acquiring, processing, and analysing spatial and other related Earth Observation data to generate geospatial products;
- Designing and producing maps, dashboards, and other spatial visualizations applications;
- Developing and maintaining KSA's geospatial database;
- Designing and deploying GIS Web applications and systems;
- Automating geospatial workflows for efficient data processing and analysis;
- Contributing to geospatial components of research and innovation projects and programmes;
- Ensuring compliance with spatial data standards, metadata protocols, and national/international geospatial frameworks;
- Working with IT department to ensure efficient GIS data access, sharing, and storage;
- Providing technical GIS input for licensing, compliance, and audit functions involving spatial data; and
- Engaging in capacity building and training activities related to geospatial data handling and tools.

- Demonstrate experience in cartographic skills, spatial analysis, and geospatial data management.
